Lawrence Gets Tree City USA Designation From Arbor Day Foundation

The township received the award for its commitment to effective urban forest management in 2022.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — Lawrence Township was recently named a 2022 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. The honor was received for the township's commitment to effective urban forest management.

This is Lawrence Township’s 27th year participating in the program.

Additionally, the Township was also awarded the Growth Award for demonstrating environmental improvement and an outstanding level of tree care.

Lawrence achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program's four requirements - a

tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least
$2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

“Tree City USA communities see the positive effects of an urban forest firsthand,” Dan
Lambe, Chief Executive of the Arbor Day Foundation, said in a statement. “The trees being planted and cared for by Lawrence are ensuring that generations to come will enjoy a better quality of life.
Additionally, participation in this program brings residents together and creates a sense of civic
pride, whether it’s through volunteer engagement or public education.”

The Arbor Day Foundation sponsors the Tree City USA program in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.

“Achieving recognition from Tree City USA affirms our longstanding policy and commitment to preserving trees in our community and keeps us focused on making Lawrence Township a beautiful place to live and work,” Municipal Manager, Kevin P. Nerwinski said.
