Lawrence Intermediate School Goes Virtual Due To COVID-19

Students are expected to return Wednesday, but officials said they may have to extend remote learning based on the current situation.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — Lawrence Intermediate School (LIS) went virtual after several students tested positive for COVID-19. Students are expected to return to classrooms on Wednesday, but district authorities said they may have to extend remote instruction if additional students test positive.

At least 18 students from LIS tested positive for COVID-19 according to the school district’s dashboard. After consulting with the Lawrence Township Health Department and the New Jersey Department of Health, school authorities decided all students would receive virtual instruction beginning Thursday, Sep. 23 through Tuesday, Sept. 28.

“Please understand, these are not arbitrary decisions. We want nothing more than to offer an excellent in-person educational experience to all students,” Superintendent Ross Kasun said in a letter to parents and guardians. “Unfortunately, closing LIS and providing remote instruction was the right choice at this time, as we needed to intervene to try to control the spread.”
