Man Charged In Fatal Stabbing Of Mercer County Woman

The woman was heard screaming for help moments before her death over the Memorial Day Weekend.

A Hamilton man has been charged in the stabbing death of a woman who was heard screaming for help over the Memorial Day Weekend, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said on Friday.

Jose C. Garcia, 18, is charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon in the fatal stabbing of 48-year-old Brenda Garzio.

Trenton police responded to a report of a woman screaming for help at a home on the 900 block of South Broad Street in Trenton at about 11:15 p.m. on May 28. Police found Garzio suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were able to identify Garcia as the man seen leaving the area where the crime occurred on surveillance footage obtained from the scene. They also conducted interviews with witnesses as part of the investigation.

Garcia was arrested on Thursday night in Trenton. The prosecutor’s office has filed a motion to have him detained.
