Man Shot At While Walking D&R Canal Trail In Lawrence: Police

The shooting occurred adjacent to the footbridge connecting the trail system over Brunswick Pike, north of Bakers Basin Road, police said.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — A man was shot at while he was walking on the Lawrence section of the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail on Wednesday, police said. No injuries were reported.

Around 9:02 a.m. on Wednesday, Lawrence police received a call from a man who said that he was shot at by an unknown person. The shooting occurred adjacent to the footbridge connecting the trail system over Brunswick Pike, just north of Bakers Basin Road, police said.

When officers arrived in the area, they heard gunfire. Officers saw a man run into a nearby home where he barricaded himself, police said. During the initial investigation, several spent shell casings were found, according to police.

Several search warrants were executed in the 3000 block of Brunswick Pike. John Kachmar, 22 from Lawrence Township was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected to be filed.
