Mercer Man Charged With Murder For Fatal March Shooting: Prosecutor
Albert L. Barnes was shot on March 15. On Monday, police arrested and charged Leroy McKnight, 43, of Trenton, authorities said.
MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A Trenton man was charged in connection with last month’s shooting death that occurred in the area of Camden Street, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said Tuesday.
Leroy McKnight, 43, is charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons not to possess a weapon. He was arrested in Trenton early Monday morning, by members of the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, Onofri said. Read More: Mercer County Man Fatally Shot Tuesday Evening: Prosecutor
At approximately 6 p.m. on March 15, Trenton police responded to a shooting in the first block of Camden Street. On arrival, officers found Albert L. Barnes, 46, of Trenton, lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead a short time later, Onofri said.

The prosecutor’s office has filed a motion to detain McKnight pending trial. The charges are the result of an investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department.
