2 Crashes In Essex County As Weather Worsens: I-280, US 1&9

A pair of crashes were reported in Essex County during the morning rush hour amid slippery, snowy conditions, authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A pair of crashes were reported in Essex County during the Monday morning rush hour amid slippery, snowy conditions, authorities said.

According to 511NJ.org, the following incidents were reported on Monday:

  • “As of 9:11 a.m., there's an accident on US 1&9 local lanes southbound Delancey St. in Newark. Left lane closed.”
  • “As of 9:01 a.m., there's an accident on I-280 eastbound east of Exit 6 - Laurel Ave. in Livingston Twp. Right lane closed 5-10 minute delay.”

There were also delays and “pockets of volume” on the Garden State Parkway northbound from south of Exit 149 - CR 506 in Bloomfield to Exit 153A - NJ 3 in Clifton, 511NJ.org reported.

Miserable and slippery road conditions were reported across the state during the early April snowstorm on Monday. The National Weather Service had previously warned commuters about a possibly hazardous drive to start the workweek.
