2 Livingston Teens Win Coveted National Merit Scholarships For College

The Livingston teens who won National Merit Scholarships will get $2,500 per year for college. See which school they attend.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Two Livingston teens will get a little extra financial help with each year of college thanks to their hard work in high school.

The National Merit Scholarship Foundation announced Tuesday that two teens who live in Livingston have won annual college scholarships in their competition, funded by the Foundation.

One student attends Livingston High School and one attends a private school in Livingston.

The highly competitive scholarships provide money for each of four years of college. The below awardees will get $2,500 per year.

The awards are given to high school seniors each year after a long process that includes submitting SAT scores, grades, recommendations, and a transcript.

Here are the 2023 winners from Livingston:

Nitya Gupta

  • Probable career field: Environmental Policy
  • School: Newark Academy, Livingston

Jeffrey Xu

  • Probable career field: Molecular Biology
  • School: Livingston High School

A student who lives in Millburn but attends a private school in Livingston also was given an award: Rahul Arora, who attends Newark Academy.

Out of towns in Essex County, Millburn had the most winners, with six residents getting awards, including Arora.
