7 Livingston Residents Who Died In Sept. 11 Attacks To Be Remembered At Event
Livingston lost 7 residents in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The "consequences are felt each day," the town said in a message.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Two decades after the shocking terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, the losses of nearly 3,000 Americans are still felt, and their grandchildren are now learning about the attacks in history class.
Official sources say that approximately 2,977 people died due to the terrorist attacks on that day, and more than 2,000 others have died of illnesses related to toxic exposure.
Of those killed on that day, officials say that more than 700 were from New Jersey.

Many were young employees of the World Trade Center. One was Todd Beamer, among a group that's believed to have heroically tried to overpower the terrorists on United Flight 93.

In its ceremony each year, Livingston honors seven residents who died at the World Trade Center on that day.
Livingston's 9/11 victims ranged from the principal of the Livingston Chinese School, Ming-Hao Liu, to the food and beverage controller for Windows on the World, Luke Dudek.
They are:
Luke A. Dudek Jeffrey Brian Gardner
Donald Thomas Jones II
Ming-Hao Liu
Joseph P. McDonald
John M. Pocher
Kenneth Albert Zelman
"While the attacks themselves occurred 22 years ago, their consequences are still felt each day," the town said in a message.
"America has made important gains in security since 2001. However, some of those gains have come at the cost of personal freedom, as demonstrated by the heavy screenings and regulations implemented at airports and experienced upon entering many public buildings.
"Every day, the families and friends of those taken on 9/11 mourn the loss of their loved ones and all their lives could have been. Residents are encouraged to attend this event, which is held so closely in the hearts of all ... Livingston cares and never forgets."
Parking will be available at St. Philomena’s Church, 386 S. Livingston Ave.
Essex County will also hold a ceremony, as well several nearby towns (check individual town calendars).
