The Livingston Public Library invites you to join Livi Cares: our Adult Volunteer Club on Thursday, August 20th 2026 from 12pm - 1pm, where we will be writing friendly letters to seniors to brighten their day. The letters will be mailed to the organization “Letters Against Isolation” and distributed to their partner facilities around the world.
All materials will be provided. This program is free and open to all!

Back by popular demand, the Livingston Public Library invites you to a Murder Mystery, where we will all work together to solve a murder. Prepare for an afternoon of fast-paced action, suspense, and unexpected plot twists. The program will be held on Sunday, July 19th from 2pm to 4 pm. Light refreshments will be served at the event.
This event is open to Livingston residents 18 and older and registration is required. Registration starts on Monday, June 29th at 10am. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Livingston Public Library.

Calligraphy means “beautiful writing” and it is usually thought of as a traditional art form that requires precision and a lot of time to master. However, it can also be a playful and expressive personal practice!
In this workshop, we will use simple tools to learn the basic calligraphy strokes and how to turn those strokes into beautiful lettering. After a little practice, we’ll make posters inspired by words that are meaningful to us. This is a non-traditional and fun way to start using modern calligraphy to express your ideas. No previous experience is necessary! RSVP&nbsp;Required

**February's Senior Happening Rescheduled to July 24th**
The Livingston Public Library invites the public to an in-person Senior Happening on Friday, July 24th at 1pm featuring “It's Today! The Showtunes of Jerry Herman” by Susie Speidel and Joseph Regan. This performance will feature a celebration of the career of Broadway composer Jerry Herman, including selections from his greatest hits, such as&nbsp;Hello, Dolly!, Mame, and&nbsp;La Cage Aux Folles, plus a few of his lesser-known shows such as&nbsp;Dear World&nbsp;and&nbsp;The Grand Tour.
Susan Speidel served as the Director of Education for Papermill Playhouse, where she oversaw the operations of the Theater School and created the Rising Star Awards, the Summer Musical Theatre Training program, and the Adopt-A-School Project, which was cited for excellence by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She is a three-time Perry Award nominee and the recipient of numerous MSU Theatre Night Awards, the NJ Governor’s Award for Theatre Education, and the NJ Theatre Alliance’s Applause Award.&nbsp; She was recently inducted into the NJACT Hall of Fame for her contributions to theater and arts education.
Joe Regan is a fixture on the cabaret scene, appearing in piano bars, on international river cruises and at various resorts.&nbsp; He performs regularly at Don’t Tell Mama in NYC and&nbsp;16 Prospect in Westfield and can also be seen online on&nbsp;Virtual Piano Bar.&nbsp; He has been nominated numerous times as Outstanding Piano Bar Instrumentalist by the Manhattan Association of Cabaret.&nbsp; He is also a teaching artist for the Performing Arts School at The MAYO Performing Arts Center in Morristown.
Senior Happening is a monthly series that allows attendees (“Seniors” or otherwise) to socialize during the first part of the program (12 until 12:45 pm) by bringing a bag lunch, while enjoying desserts and coffee served by the Friends of the Library volunteers. The program and entertainment then begins at 1 pm.
Registration is required and may be done in person at the library; by telephone at (973) 992-4600; or online at www.livingstonlibrary.org. Livingston and other Essex County residents may register starting Monday, July 6th.
