The Basics of Medicare and What NJ Residents Need to Know

Join us for an informative overview of Medicare, that will explain the basics of Parts A, B, C, and D, as well as Medicare Supplements and Medicare Advantage Plans. Speaker Fred Ciccone will discuss how these different components work together and provide essential information to help older adults make informed decisions about their healthcare coverage.

The presentation will also address an increasingly common situation: continuing to work beyond age 65. Ciccone will explain what individuals should consider when deciding whether to enroll in Medicare or remain on an employer-sponsored health plan, including the importance of knowing when to act and understanding the potential consequences of delaying enrollment. 

He will also discuss New Jersey’s PAAD (Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled) program, which helps eligible older adults and individuals with disabilities reduce their prescription drug costs.

The second part of the presentation will focus on a new Medicare consideration specific to New Jersey. New Jersey is one of six states participating in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) WISeR (Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction) Model, a program designed to reduce waste and potential fraud in Medicare spending. Ciccone will explain what the program means for Medicare beneficiaries with Supplement plans, including the introduction of prior authorization requirements for certain services. He will discuss what beneficiaries should know about this developing six-year initiative and how it could affect Medicare coverage in New Jersey.
