Flood Advisory Issued For Essex County; NWS Says Flooding To Begin 'Shortly'
Areas that will experience some flooding include Millburn, Caldwell, Newark, and Bloomfield, the NWS said.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Essex County until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, saying approaching storms could cause flooding in low-lying areas.
The advisory also pertains to Hudson, Union, Bergen, and Passaic counties.
"At 335 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms," the NWS said. "Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of
rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding."

They said, "Some locations that will experience flooding include...Newark, Paterson, Elizabeth, Passaic, Wayne, Plainfield, Bloomfield, Linden, Orange, Paramus, Ridgewood, Summit, Lyndhurst, Millburn, Rutherford, Harrison, Pompton Lakes, Caldwell, Kearny and Hawthorne."

The NWS had earlier issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Essex, Hudson, Union, and Bergen counties.
For comparison, the deadly Tropical Depression Ida last Sept. 1 dumped more than 7 inches of rain in a short time on parts of North Jersey, leaving flooded corners.
