Livingston High School Grad Wins Second News and Documentary Emmy Award

Former resident and 2004 Livingston High School graduate, Kimberly Kaplan, won an Emmy for her coverage of the Boston Marathon Bombings.

Kimberly Kaplan, a 2004 Livingston High School graduate, received an Emmy Award at the 35th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards.

Kaplan won the award for Outstanding Live Coverage of a Current News Story--Long Form for her contributions to CBS News’ coverage of the Boston Marathon Bombings. She is credited as a producer on the story. The award was presented at a ceremony held last week at Lincoln Center.

This is Kaplan’s second Emmy Award. Her first win was in 2012 in the category of Outstanding Interview for producing “Sandusky Speaks,” the now infamous interview Bob Costas conducted with former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky for NBC News’ Rock Center with Brian Williams.

Kaplan has worked as an editorial producer for CBS News since February of 2013. Previously, she worked at NBC News as part of the original team producing Rock Center, and then as an associate producer in the booking department. Prior to that, she worked at ABC News Nightline as production assistant to Cynthia McFadden, the host of Nightline.

Kimberly Kaplan graduated in 2008 from the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland at College Park. She is the daughter of Nell Sommese and Kenneth Kaplan, formerly of Livingston.
