Livingston Committee for Diversity Honors Community Groups for Outstanding Service

The Committee for Diversity honored Girl Scout Troops among others for their participation in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration

(LIVINGSTON, NJ)- Several community groups were honored at the Town Council meeting on Tuesday night with Certificates of Appreciation for their contribution to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration.

The Livingston Committee for Diversity hosted the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration on Monday, January 19, at Livingston High School.

Among the groups recognized for their services were members of Girl Scout Troops 20018, 20215, 20290, 20302 and 20735. Their service was called “an inspiration to other kids” and adults alike within the Livingston Community.

The mission of the Livingston Committee for Diversity is to “Encourage the citizens of Livingston to recognize their commonalities and to appreciate the potential strength of the racial, ethnic and cultural diversity that so richly enhances our great community.”

The annual celebration commemorated the life and service of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a number of different activities.

Mayor Michael Silverman explained the day was broken down into three parts. In the morning to early afternoon, various groups had tables set up in the High School for different service activities. The projects ranged from collecting canned food and gently used clothing items, to donations for the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, among others. In the afternoon, there was an African Dance Performance and the evening concluded with a walk around the Oval singing “We Shall Overcome.”

The Livingston League of Women Voters, Grace Lutheran Church, the Township Communications and Publicity Department, The Key Club, The Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club and Livingston High School were among the groups honored with certificates of appreciation on Tuesday evening for their outstanding community service.
