Livingston Hospital Adds Cutting Edge Device To Its Arsenal

The new device will support the rapid diagnosis and treatment of patients experiencing symptoms of stroke, administrators say.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston has become “the first and only hospital in New Jersey” to welcome a cutting edge medical device – the 256 Slice General Electric Revolution CT Scanner – to its stroke center’s arsenal, according to a news release.

The new device will be located in the hospital’s emergency department, and will support the rapid diagnosis and treatment of patients experiencing symptoms of stroke, administrators said.

“I am extremely excited to have this superior technology,” said Christopher Freer, chairman of the hospital’s Department of Emergency Medicine. “It provides faster and more efficient scanning while delivering the lowest possible dose of radiation.”

According to Freer, the device can scan an entire organ in less than a second, reducing the time an individual has to hold their breath during a session.

The device can comfortably accommodate individuals up to 675 pounds, hospital administrators said.
