Livingston Man Meets 1st Responders Who Saved His Life

It's not every day that you get to meet the people responsible for saving your life.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — It’s not every day that you get to meet the people responsible for saving your life. But on Sunday, a Livingston resident imparted his heartfelt thanks to local emergency responders whose quick action prevented a cardiac arrest from turning tragic.

The Livingston Police Department posted news about the emotion-laden reunion on social media:

“Tonight was a very special night! On January 22, the Livingston Police Department, Livingston First Aid Squad and MONOC paramedics responded to a cardiac arrest call at a residence in Livingston. Pictured are those first responders who were on the call and the gentleman they help save that night.”

Patch reached out to the Livingston Police Department for more information about the incident and received this reply:

“On January 22, 2018, around 9:30 p.m, HQ received a 911 from Bernadette Gonzalez stating her friend, Peter McDonald was not feeling well. Upon arrival, he was found unresponsive with no pulse. Officers Sommerville, Colucci, and Guzzi immediately began CPR. Officer Greico and Sgt. D'Andrea also arrived, and defibrillator pads were administered with one shock. CPR continued as the Livingston First Aid Squad and Medic 254 arrived. Mr. McDonald was then transported to St. Barnabas Medical Center.”

The LPD’s social media post inspired several comments thanking the first responders for their quick action.

  • “So very appreciative for all the work you do! You saved my mother on multiple occasions over the years. Always professional, kind and making the patients feel at ease.”
  • “Luv you all, you’re the best group of officers to work with and appreciate the great work you do.”
  • “So grateful for the work you all do daily. Thank you.”
