Livingston Mayor Earns Award For Environmental Leadership
Livingston Mayor Al Anthony was recently named the recipient of the 2024 ANJEC Municipal Leadership Award.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston Mayor Al Anthony recently earned an award for his “exceptional environmental leadership as an elected official and an attorney.
Anthony was recently named the recipient of the 2024 Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) Municipal Leadership Award.
The mayor serves as liaison to the Livingston Environmental Commission, which makes recommendations to the town council about protecting, developing or using natural resources in the township. This includes water and open space – two issues that have enduring relevance to the community. Another big responsibility of the commission is to review the potential environmental impacts of applications heard before the Livingston Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Outside of his official duties with the Livingston town government, Anthony is an attorney who serves as special council to the attorney general, representing the Department of Environmental Protection and prosecuting cases against polluters to recover compensation for statewide natural resources damages. He also represents victims of environmental contamination who are injured from carcinogens throughout the state.
Highlights of his legal career include setting precedent certifying the first environmental toxic exposure class action in New Jersey history, Russo v. Allied Signal, and prosecuting other community suits, including Pompton Lakes v. Dupont and Toms River v. Ciba-Geigy.

Anthony is also a representative of the New Jersey Emergency Preparedness Association, which works “to provide affordable emergency preparedness training to local, regional and state emergency managers and first responders by conducting an annual conference.”
