Livingston Cop 'Dragged' By Car, Injured During Arrest of Shoplifting Suspects: Police

A Livingston police officer was "dragged" by a car when he went to arrest a shoplifting suspect Wednesday night, police said.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — A Livingston police officer was injured when police tried to arrest two shoplifting suspects Wednesday night, police said Thursday.

Police said that at 8 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to Ulta Beauty at 530 West Mount Pleasant Ave., on a report of a shoplifting in progress by two women.

The police said that they found two women who had more than $2,000 in stolen perfumes.

Ulta Beauty employees saw both suspects hide the perfumes in bags and exit the store without paying, police said.

A 33-year-old woman from Newark was charged with shoplifting, police said.

Police then found the other woman in the driver’s seat of a 2005 Honda Accord parked in front of the store, they said. According to police, "As officers were attempting to place her under arrest, she put the vehicle in gear and rammed a police vehicle and knocked over/dragged the officer while doing so."

The officer was taken to the hospital for his injuries. The suspect fled "at a high rate of speed," police said.

An update on the officer's condition was not immediately available, but this story will be revised when more information is received.
