LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston Public School district is expected to name a new business administrator on Tuesday night when the school board votes on appointing Michael Davison to the position at its meeting.

Davison currently serves as the business administrator and board secretary for the Morris-Union Jointure Commission in New Providence. Davison has held that role since 2012 and has been responsible for the district’s budget and financial reporting, purchasing, payroll and inventory systems, according to a news release.

Once approved, Davison will replace Livingston business administrator Steven K. Robinson, who announced in September that he will be retiring at the end of 2021 after serving the district for the past 23 years.

Davison will step into the role on Jan. 3 but will be spending time in the Livingston district in coming weeks, the district announced Tuesday.

"Having the opportunity to serve a public school district like Livingston is a privilege. I’ve always wanted to work in a school district that is a ‘community’ and I’ve found it here,” Davison said in a news release. "Public education is always challenging. As we come out of this pandemic, there will be many lessons learned, with some that enable us to be stronger than ever before. I look forward to working with all stakeholders with a goal to ensure Livingston Public Schools are among the best in the State of New Jersey."

Prior to taking on his business administrator duties in Morris, Davison held the same position in both the Denville and Essex Fells public school districts. Davison and wife Casey have two daughters, ages 4 and 7. Davison holds a degree in Finance from Rutgers, where he also earned his Juris Doctor from the Rutgers School of Law in 2004. He certified as a school business administrator in the State of New Jersey.

“While it was no easy task, we set out to identify an experienced individual for this position who will be able to manage the finances of a high performing district while finding innovative ways to navigate the ever-present challenges schools districts face in providing an exceptional educational experience for our students, staff and community now and in the future,” Livingston Public Schools Superintendent Matthew Block said in a statement released by the district.

“We believe we have found that person in Michael Davison. Everyone we spoke with who knows Michael, talked about his outstanding knowledge of finance, his collaborative nature, his professionalism, and his connection with and dedication to the mission of public schools.”
