Three Car Theft Attempts Thwarted In 3 Days, Livingston Police Say

Thieves attempted to break into four cars from Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 in Livingston, police said. Security systems alerted homeowners.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston police said a sports car was stolen from a Livingston driveway last week, but several other attempted thefts were stopped when car owners were alerted and called police.

On Monday, Sept. 25, officers responded to a Canterbury Road residence at 9:46 a.m. The homeowner said someone had stolen their Porsche Cayenne from the driveway in the last hour.

The vehicle had been left unlocked with the key fob inside, police said.

The Detective Bureau is investigating.

Meanwhile, thieves attempted to break into four cars from Saturday through Monday, police said, but could not steal the cars.

In two cases, security systems informed the owners of the theft-in-progress.

These were the incidents:

On Sept. 30 at 3:30. a.m., Livingston officers responded to a Springbrook Road residence on a report of an attempt to steal a vehicle. A woman said she was awakened by a Ring doorbell notification. Someone was trying to gain entry into her Dodge Charger, but was unsuccessful.

Then, the next day, at 10:59 a.m., Livingston officers responded to a Cobblewood Road residence on a report of an attempt to steal a vehicle. The victim said she looked out to her driveway and saw someone sitting in the front seat of her BMW X5. The suspect couldn't take the car and fled in a waiting vehicle.

On Monday, at 3:21 a.m., a Chelsea Drive resident said he was alerted to a notification from his security system that showed a stranger trying to gain entry to his Ram truck, but the person was unsuccessful.

Then, at 11:12 a.m., a Brayton Road resident came into headquarters to report that the night before, an unknown person entered his BMW X5 and tried to steal it, but was unsuccessful.

The Livingston Detective Bureau is investigating all of the attempts.
