Livingston School Gets More Threats, Teen Suspect Released On Bail: Report

Livingston High School is again the target of online threats, school officials say.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston High School is again the target of online threats, less than a week after authorities announced the arrest of a teen suspected of making multiple social media threats that caused a public uproar in the district, school officials say.

Livingston school officials released a statement about the latest threats on Friday afternoon:

“On Friday, Sept. 23, Livingston High School was once again targeted by online threats. While not deemed credible, Livingston Police, working in collaboration with the high school staff, secured the building as students went through their regular schedule of classes. In the best interest of all the schools, there was also additional police presence throughout the district. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and police are actively investigating.”

John Coulouris, 18, was charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child by distributing child pornography, invasion of privacy, terroristic threats and two counts of cyber harassment, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Livingston Police Department.

His $175,000 bail was paid shortly afterwards and Coulouris was released from custody, TAP Into Livingston reported.

Coulouris is accused of posting messages on various social media platforms beginning “on or about Sept. 6” and threatening violent acts in Livingston which were never carried out, prosecutors said.

“The matter came to the attention of the Livingston Police Department when concerned citizens reported the postings on various social media networks,” prosecutors stated.

Reports previously stated that a person wrote they planned to “shoot up” Livingston High School on a Facebook post and that it would be "judgment day for anyone who attempts to stop the violence."
