"Once a year, we give a concert with the winner," said cellist Susan Profeta, of Maplewood. "This year there's an amazing piece, Mendelssohn's Symphony (nicknamed the Scottish Symphony), which is really challenging. We're really getting a handle on it."
Three of the LSO's members are from Maplewood, including Profeta, principal flutist Anisa Mehdi, and Leah van Dornick, who plays the French horn.
