LIVINGSTON, NJ — U.S. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen has inspired a group of local teens to get involved into politics... but will he heed their advice?
TAP Into Livingston reported that several Livingston High School students recently paid a visit to the Republican leader’s office and spoke with a field representative as part of a larger group effort to advocate in favor of the Affordable Care Act, oppose any executive order that targets a specific race or religion, and ask that Frelinghuysen hold a town hall-style meeting.
Frelinghuysen, the chairman of the House Committee On Appropriations, represents New Jersey’s 11th district, which includes several Essex County towns: Bloomfield, Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Essex Fells, Fairfield, Livingston, Montclair, North Caldwell, Nutley, Roseland, Verona, West Caldwell and West Orange.

“This is our chance to get involved and make sure [Frelinghuysen] understands the issues we’re concerned about as the future voters and leaders of America,” LHS student Ari Cohen told TAP Into Livingston. “My entire life I have just been able to watch the biggest political issues unfold. No more.”

Last week, NJ 11th For Change members held a series of public, town hall meetings at four locations in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional district.
11th For Change held its fourth and final town hall at Temple B'nai Abraham in Livingston.
During the event, which drew upwards of 500 people according to organizers, activists raised concerns about the possible repeal of the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, possible cuts in federal funding for groups such as Planned Parenthood, and Frelinghuysen’s voting record, which they said consistently falls along GOP lines against the will of many of his constituents.
Frelinghuysen was not present at the event to address their concerns.
