Livingston Teens Win Two 'Foxy' Awards

LIVINGSTON, NJ — After more than a year of school plays being canceled or held virtually due to the pandemic, some kids at Livingston High School came out shining.

On Tuesday, Livingston High School won two of Montclair State University's Foxy Awards for the 2022 school production of "Fiddler on the Roof," a district spokesperson said.

Senior Jonah Ruderman won the coveted Best Actor award for his performance as Tevye. (Find out more about his performance and see the video here.)

LHS also won "Outstanding Production of a Period Musical." The entrants had been narrowed down to nine other nominees.

"This was the first time that LHS participated in MSU's theater awards program, whose goal is to promote and advance the commitment to high-quality theater production in New Jersey’s secondary schools," the district noted.

"The awards honor the accomplishments of individual achievement of both students and educators in the areas of performance, direction, design and technical theatre, as well as outstanding productions."

The musical opened on Broadway in 1964 and was adapted into a film. Based on the stories of Sholem Aleichem, it's known for familiar numbers such as "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were A Rich Man," "Matchmaker" and "Tradition."
