Livingston Woman’s Alleged Strangler Indicted: Report

A West Orange man has been indicted for allegedly strangling a Livingston woman found dead in her home, reports say.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — A West Orange man has been indicted for allegedly strangling a Livingston woman found dead in her home in May, reports say.

According to court records, Dwayne Birchler, 33, was indicted on Dec. 1 on a second-degree charge of reckless manslaughter in connection with the death of Lindsay A. Ulyate, 32.

Birchler has pleaded not guilty to the charge. He is currently incarcerated at the Essex County Correctional Facility, according to the county jail's inmate lookup database.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Livingston police responded to Ulyate’s West Cedar Street home around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday to find her unresponsive.

She was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:11 a.m., authorities said.

Authorities ruled the incident a homicide following an autopsy, finding that the cause of death was strangulation, prosecutors stated.

Police arrested Birchler in connection with the incident and charged him with manslaughter.
