Nursing Excellence At St. Barnabas Earns Hospital 'Magnet' Status

The nurses of Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston got a well-deserved nod for their skill and dedication to their jobs.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — The nurses at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston recently got a well-deserved nod of recognition when the hospital achieved “Magnet” status with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Earlier this week, the hospital announced that it earned Magnet recognition from the ANCC as a reflection of its “nursing professionalism, teamwork and superiority in patient care.” With this credential, Saint Barnabas joins a list of only 477 U.S. health care organizations to achieve Magnet recognition, hospital administrators said.

Saint Barnabas administrators called Magnet recognition “the gold standard for nursing excellence.” To achieve the honor, organizations must pass a “rigorous and lengthy process” that includes widespread participation from leadership and staff. This process includes an electronic application, written patient care documentation, an on-site visit and a review by the Commission on Magnet Recognition.
