With school starting next week, Livingston Public Schools (LPS) has recently released a map of crossing guard posts.
According to the map, posted on the district's website, there will be 22 posts throughout the township for the school year (as well as guards at each of the district's schools and administrative building). Livingston's Police Department is responsible for assigning crossing guards to posts (and making any re-assignments during the year).
With the replacement of courtesy busing with subscription service following budget cuts, the district has indicated that it expects more children will be walking to school. With more children crossing the roads, there had been some concern about students using busy streets and highways such as Eisenhower Parkway. The board worked with Livingston's police department over the summer to develop maps for each school neighborhood with safe routes.

Subscription busing is fee-based busing for those students who do not live within the parameters for free busing but still wish to take transportation to school (the fee is $375 one-way or $750 round trip). LPS follows state guidelines in providing free transportation for children in grades K-8 who live more than 2 miles from school and for children in grades 9-12 who live more than 2½ miles from school.
