'Shoplifting Crew' Tried To Take $5K In Clothing From Livingston Macy's, Police Say

The Livingston police responded to several shoplifting attempts at Macy's last Saturday, they said.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston police said this week that they responded to two shoplifting reports at Macy's on Saturday, four hours apart. One of those reports involved a "shoplifting crew," they said.

Police said that at 12:13 p.m. Saturday, offers responded to a report of a "shoplifting crew" inside Macy's actively concealing clothing items in bags. Upon arrival, Loss prevention officers were following two people out of Macy’s, attempting to stop them, police said.

Livingston officers arrested two people who they said had hidden $5,000 in clothing and left the store without paying.

Police said that Juan Cornejo-Arrendondo, 69, from Paterson, was charged with shoplifting. He also had an outstanding warrant from New York, police said, so he was taken to the Essex County jail.

A 33-year-old Paterson man was also charged with shoplifting, police said. But that man was released with a summons.

Around 4:30 p.m., police said, Livingston officers again responded to Macy’s on a report of a shoplifter in custody.

Police said loss prevention officers had a 51-year-old Newark woman in custody. Police said she hid more than $600 in bags and left the store. She was brought to the Essex County Jail.
