Students Honored For Awards
District salutes scores of students at Monday's meeting and also thanks long-time employees retiring at the end of the year.
Monday night was a celebratory one as the Livingston Board of Education honored scores of students who have represented the district in several contests and who've won a myriad of awards. The Board also honored some long-time employees who are retiring at the end of this school year.
"It is always a pleasure to celebrate the achievements of a diverse number of students," said Board President Chuck Granata during the meeting, which was held in the media center of LHS. "Hopefully, we will celebrate more of those in the coming months."
Students who've won regional, state and national awards and honors in everything from Junior Model United Nations to the Art Educators Calendar and the Interpretive Reading Tournament were recognized.

Some of the students could credit some of the instructors that were retiring. At the end of the year, the district will say goodbye to Richard Baron, Hugh Mahon, Alanson Partelow, George Firrincili, Pasqualino Santorsola and Laurie Arbet-Engels. The school board praised them for their hard work. Mr. Partelow and Mr. Mahon were saluted for their work in the physical education and art departments.
School board member Sheri Goldberg recalled the commitment of Mr. Partelow, especially for his involvement in the volleyball team that he started in the district.

"He spent his own money for the volleyball nets and the equipment to help the players to continue to play in the summer," said Goldberg.
Many on the Board recalled the impact of Mr. Mahon, especially when it came to the arts.
