How many kids are using drugs in Livingston?
During its public meeting on Monday, the Livingston Board of Education released the results of a district-wide study regarding student substance abuse.
The survey - conducted as a partnership between the district’s Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team and the Livingston Municipal Alliance Committee in 2014 - measured the use of alcohol, marijuana, tobacco and illegal prescription drugs by Livingston students in eighth, 10th and 12th grades.

In all, only 34.8 percent of those students participated in the voluntary survey, reported school administrators.

- 18.4 percent of students used alcohol within 30 days of the survey
- 6.7 percent used marijuana within 30 days of the survey
- 22 percent obtained alcohol at their own home without parental permission
- 94.5 percent reported feeling that the school space functioned as a safe environment
