Teen Arrested After Theft Of 2 Cars From Livingston Home

A teen was charged recently in connection with the theft of a BMW and Range Rover from a Livingston home last year.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Nearly six months after two vehicles were stolen from a Livingston resident's driveway, a teen has been charged with the crime.

The Livingston police said Tuesday that Jaquil Buie, 18, of Newark was charged with several offenses in connection with the crime, which occurred last July.

Police say that at 2:09 a.m. on July 23, 2023, Livingston police responded to a Melrose Drive residence on a report of an active burglar alarm. Police noticed screen damage to a first floor bathroom window and the window was open.

Police entered the home, which wasn't occupied at the time. They determined that two cars were stolen from the residence: a 2022 BMW M3 and a 2020 Range Rover. The Range Rover was later recovered in Newark, police said.

A follow up investigation by the Livingston Detective Bureau led to the arrest of Buie.

He was charged with receiving stolen property, three counts of burglary, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, and with conspiracy to commit burglary.

Buie had also been arrested last summer in connection with a crime in which a Livingston woman awoke to find intruders in her house.

A Livingston police spokesperson said Wednesday that Buie was already in the Essex County Jail when police made the arrest on the more recent charges.
