Unable To Steal SUV In Essex County, 2 Men Take Package, Cops Say. Guess What's Inside.

Shucks, foiled. Two men tried and failed to swipe a Yukon from a Millburn driveway, so they took an Amazon package. Here's what was in it.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Two would-be thieves trying to steal an SUV from a driveway in Essex County got a small consolation prize instead, according to police reports.

The Millburn police said that a Stewart Road resident caught two men on camera Saturday morning, Aug. 19, walking up the driveway.

The video shows the men trying to enter the person's parked GMC Yukon. But the vehicle was locked, so they gave up, police said.

Then, one of the men went to the porch and stole an Amazon package instead, police said.

The package contained beauty products, which may be useful for future videos.

Millburn detectives are investigating.

Thief Takes Car Keys, Then Car

In a growing Essex County theft trend, on Friday, around 4:26 a.m., a resident of Deerfield Road in Millburn called police to report a burglary. The person said the thief entered the home through a window, then stole the keys to a BMW X5 off the kitchen counter.

The person left through a rear door and took off with the BMW in the driveway.

This is one of many such thefts that have occurred in the last year and a half in Millburn and Livingston. The thieves often take keys from a kitchen, then make off with the car. Read about other incidents below.
