Flood Watch Issued For Eastern Essex County: See Rain Totals By Town

An inch or more of rain may fall in Essex County after more than a week of sunshine. But it won't be as bad as the April floods.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Last month, weeks of sunshine and mild temperatures began to seem a little too good to last, and it was: Three days of rain ensued over a weekend in April, causing flooding in Caldwell, Fairfield, and other North Jersey towns.

And closer to the Hudson River, a couple with a baby had to be rescued from their car near the Jersey City/Hoboken border.

Similarly, the past week has included mild temperatures and sunshine — and all good things must come to an end.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for eastern Essex County this Saturday through midnight, with as much as an inch of rain falling that day. However, Sunday will be mostly sunny, unlike the three-day downpour that dumped more than 3 inches last month.
