Will Macy’s Close Its Livingston Mall Store? 100 Locations Face Elimination By 2017

Macy's has been a fixture at the Livingston Mall for years. Will it continue that way?

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Macy’s has announced that it will be closing almost 100 stores by “early 2017,” but so far, there is no word as to whether the location at the Livingston Mall will be on the chopping block.

The nationwide retailer didn’t name the specific locations that are facing the axe in its Thursday news release, but said that the stores would be listed “at a later date” when the company finalizes its decisions.

Macy’s has a store in the Livingston Mall on Eisenhower Parkway, as well as The Mall At Short Hills on Morris Turnpike, Route 22 in Springfield, Highway 46 in Wayne and the Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City.

The Livingston Mall Macy's location is such a local fixture that it has its own "wing" and entrance, and is often used in directions to get to other stores. On Aug. 26, the Livingston store is slated to participate in the company's national "Shop for a Cause" event.

Macy's – which currently operates 728 stores including 675 "full-line" locations – stated that it plans to focus its resources on its “highest-performing” stores while pouring more into online shopping and mobile apps.
