Monmouth Medical Center Pediatrician Malcolm Schwartz, D.O., Recognized by New Jersey Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association

Malcolm Schwartz, D.O., a pediatric endocrinologist with The Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, was recently recognized by the New Jersey Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association (NJCFSA) for his work as a pioneer in the research and treatment of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). NJCFSA provides support, education and information for individuals with ME/CFS and their families.

According to Susan M. Levine, M.D., board certified infectious disease specialist and medical advisor for NJCFSA, Dr. Schwartz was recognized for his compassion when diagnosing and treating children and young adults with CFS. “Dr. Schwartz is knowledgeable about the many struggles children and teens with CFS endure on a daily basis. He regularly writes letters to his patients’ school advocating for any specific accommodations needed. Additionally, he wholeheartedly supports his patients who apply for the NJCFSA High School Scholarship.”

Dr. Schwartz served as the chief of the pediatric endocrinology and diabetes unit at The Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center for seven years and is highly regarded throughout the state and the country for his significant accomplishments in endocrinology. In 2006 and again in 2008, the American Osteopathic Foundation awarded him the Merck Excellence in Care Award in recognition of his work with the Center for the Treatment of Insulin Disorders at Monmouth Medical Center.

In addition to his private practice in Long Branch, Dr. Schwartz serves as a clinical associate professor of pediatrics at the Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, Monmouth Medical Center’s academic affiliate. Active in numerous organizations, Dr. Schwartz is a member of the National Osteopathic Honor Fraternity and Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society. He also served as president of the North Jersey Pediatric Society and chairman of the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatricians.
