Monmouth Medical Center Presents February Community Health Education Programs

DIABETES SELF-MANAGEMENT SERIES
Fridays, February 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Mondays, February 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Fee billed to insurance. Learn how to manage your diabetes by attending this four-session diabetes education program focusing on diet, nutrition, meal plans, glucose monitoring, medications, prevention and treatment of diabetes complications, dining out and benefits of exercise. The program is taught by a registered nurse and a registered dietitian/certified diabetes educator. It will be held at The Center for Diabetes Education at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. Program attendees will need a doctor’s prescription, and fees will be billed to Medicare or your insurance carrier. For information and to register for classes, call 732-923-5025.

WOMEN AND HEART DISEASE
February 8 from noon to 1 p.m.
Free. Cardiologist Ajay Shah, MD, will discuss the symptoms and risk factors of heart disease in women. The talk will be held in the Joel Opatut Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center of the Maysie-Stroock Pavilion at Monmouth Medical Center (Pavilion & Second Avenue, Long Branch). DANCE FOR YOUR HEART
February 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Free. Dance your way to a healthy heart. This event celebrates heart health and features dance, fitness, health screenings and overall cardiac risk and health information. There will be giveaways, prizes and raffles. This event will take place at the Monmouth Mall, Town Square in front of Macy’s, located at the intersection of Routes 35 and 36, Eatontown. FOURTH ANNUAL “GO RED” INITIATIVE
February 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Free. Knowing your numbers can save your life! February is American Heart Month, so learn how to stay heart-healthy. This event is sponsored by Black Professional Women, Monmouth County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Concerned Black Nurses with participation by Monmouth Medical Center. Free health screenings will be offered during this event at the Pilgrim Baptist Church, 172 Shrewsbury Avenue, Red Bank. For information call 732-747-2343. Registration not required.

KNOW YOUR NUMBERS: CARDIAC RISK FACTORS AND SCREENINGS
February 22 from 1 to 2 p.m.
Free. Everyone should know their risk for heart disease. Join Paula Ross, RN, for cholesterol and blood pressure screenings and to discuss topics including the preventative measures you can take to stay healthy, what your risk is for heart disease and the difference between good and bad cholesterol. Presentation and screenings will be in the SCAN classroom in the lower level of the Monmouth Mall, intersection of Routes 35 and 36, Eatontown. Registration is required by calling 732-542-1326.
