Monmouth Medical Center Programs Receive Accreditation by the Commission on Cancer

Two Monmouth Medical Center programs recently earned re-accreditation by nationally recognized multidisciplinary accreditation programs, providing assurance to patients that they will receive the highest-level of comprehensive care at Monmouth, including access to a full range of state-of-the art services and a multidisciplinary approach to provide the best treatment options.

The Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center achieved another three-year accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS CoC) with commendations on several of the standards and with best practice honors for the Cancer Support Community. ACoS CoC recognizes cancer care programs for their commitment to providing comprehensive, high-quality, and multidisciplinary patient-centered care. The Leon Hess Cancer Center is the only facility in Monmouth County to be designated as an Academic Comprehensive Cancer Program by ACoS CoC.

For more than 40 years, the Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center has broadened its leadership role in oncology services through the ongoing expansion of state-of-the-art programs and technologies offered in many areas of cancer prevention, detection, treatment and ongoing after-care.

Additionally, the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center at Monmouth Medical Center successfully achieved another three-year reaccreditation from the National Accreditation Programs for Breast Centers (NAPBC), also a program administered by the American College of Surgeons, with the surveyor commenting on “an overall excellent program with dedicated staff delivering robust patient-centered care.” The Wilentz Center is the only NAPBC-accredited program in Monmouth County and the first to be accredited in Ocean County.

All centers receiving NAPCB accreditation must undergo a rigorous evaluation process and meet high quality standards. Centers must have a full range of state-of-the-art services, a multidisciplinary team approach to care to ensure and coordinate the best treatment options and access to ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options.

The accreditations from ACoS CoC and NAPBC come on the heels of two other prestigious recognitions awarded recently. Monmouth Medical Center, which recently was named the Best Hospital in Monmouth County by the readers of The Asbury Park Press, was among only eight hospitals in New Jersey to receive a four-star rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the highest hospital rating achieved in the state.

It was also recently was announced that Monmouth Medical Center once again received an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, the nation’s leading experts on patient safety. The “A” score was awarded in the October 31 update to the Hospital Safety scores assigned to U.S. hospitals based on preventable medical errors, injuries accidents and infections. In Monmouth County, Monmouth Medical Center is the only hospital to consistently receive an A rating. Additionally, the safety of Monmouth Medical Center’s maternity service was recognized by Leapfrog, as it was the only area hospital to fully meet full safety standards in all areas of maternity care.
