SRHS Student Elected to State Student Council

Shore Regional High School junior Chris Forlini was elected the treasurer for the New Jersey Association of Student Councils.

Shore Regional High School junior Chris Forlini is making his high school years count, recently getting elected to serve as the treasurer for the New Jersey Association of Student Councils (NJASC).

Forlini, who describes himself as “math inclined,” said he joined the SRHS Student Council last year, and was impressed when he saw the state officers at a conference.
“As treasurer, I keep track of the accounts NJASC,” Forlini explained. “I’m in charge of running their Top-10 projects, which are school-submitted. I go through them all and vote on the top 10, which get awards for that year.”
Forlini said he is also in charge of leadership training, and will attend monthly meetings, usually at the high school of another state officer.
“This position gives me my first real responsibility and it connects me with a lot of people,” Forlini said. “I’ve always liked leading and I have always tried to fill my time with things.”
Always on the go, Forlini is a swimmer for SRHS, he throws javelin, and is a member of the Model UN, SAW (Students for Animal Welfare), class adviser for the Class of 2019, and a member of the High School Student Council.
“It’s hard to balance,” said Forlini, of all his obligations. “You can’t really procrastinate and sometimes you have to do things you don’t feel like doing.”
Forlini said he is looking at the Boston area for college, with plans to study pre-law and business, and ultimately earn a law degree.
“Serving on the NJASC is really fun,” he said. “Sometimes it gets stressful but it’s thrilling to be onstage with those people. It’s great experience for when I get older because I’m interested in politics and business.”
Forlini said he is also looking forward to attending the national conference in Minnesota in June.
According to NJASC.org, The New Jersey Association of Student Councils (NJASC) is the nation's oldest student leadership organization. Since its inception in 1927 as the New Jersey Association of High School Councils, the organization has worked with both student leaders and student council advisors to encourage participation in student government and provide a forum for students to network and share ideas for successful projects and events.
