5 Long Valley Runners Safe at Boston Marathon

Three women, two men from Washington Township said to be safe after finish-line explosion during annual event.

Five Washington Township residents are safe after running in and completing the Boston Marathon Monday afternoon, all of whom finished the race before explosions near the finish line killed 2 people.

Long Valley resident Kelly Shea said she had been in touch, whether over the phone or through social media, with some of the runners who are accounted for.

Those runners are Meredith Borrelli, Julie Williams, Janice Cazes, Michael Hodgetts, and Pete Iannuzzo. Shea said she was aware all runners and their families were safe and accounted for.

Borrelli's last check in, according to Boston Athletic Association's database, was at the finish line with a time of 4:02:16. Williams' last check in was at the finish line with a time of 3:59:46. Cazes' last check in was at the halfway point with a time of 1:54:49. There were no check in times for Hodgetts, and Iannuzzo last checked in at the finish line with a time of 3:51:25.

Shea said she knew Hodgetts had run the marathon on multiple occasions.

A loud explosion was heard near a bridge that marks the finish line in the annual race, the New York Times reported. The marathon has been stopped as authorities tend to the wounded and lock down nearby buildings.

The Boston Athletic Assocation reported 562 runners from New Jersey among the 23,000 in the race.
