Stroke Awareness Seminar Coming To Long Valley

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Washington Township Recreation will host a community seminar on stroke prevention and emergency response next month in Long Valley as part of Stroke Awareness Month in May.

The program, titled “Stroke Can Happen at Any Age. Are You Prepared?,” is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at the Washington Township Community Center, 35 East Springtown Road, Long Valley. According to the event announcement, the seminar is intended to raise awareness about stroke prevention and emergency response.

The presentation will be led by Lorrie Koonz, RN, stroke manager at Atlantic Health Hackettstown. Attendees will receive information on major stroke risk factors, prevention strategies, and the steps to take during a stroke emergency using the FAST method.

The event notice states that 80 percent of strokes are preventable. It also says participants will learn about advances in stroke treatment, along with information about recovery and rehabilitation.

According to the announcement, the seminar is designed to give individuals and families life-saving information and encourage proactive steps for brain and cardiovascular health. The program is being offered through Washington Township Recreation.
