7 Morris County School Districts Named To AP Honor Roll

These districts offer plenty of Advanced Placement classes, and the student in them generally score high on the exam.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ— Seven Morris County school districts were named to the College Board's AP District Honor Roll, recognizing their success in Advanced Placement (AP) classes.

The AP Honor Roll recognized districts that offer high levels of AP classes while having high numbers of students receiving final exam scores of 3 or higher. (Graded on a scale of 1 to 5, a 3 is considered passing and can translate into college credit for students.)

The Morris County districts honored were:

  • Butler
  • Jefferson
  • Randolph
  • West Morris Regional
  • Morris County Vocational School District
  • School District of the Chathams
  • Morris Hills Regional District

Randolph, and West Morris were both recognized for making the list multiple years.

Districts are judged on three criteria, based on the past three years of data, according to the College Board:

  1. Increased participation/access to AP by at least 4 percent in large districts, at least 6 percent in medium districts, and at least 11 percent in small districts.
  2. Increased or maintained the percentage of African American, Hispanic/Latino, and American Indian/Alaska Native students taking exams and increased or maintained the percentage of African American, Hispanic/Latino, and American Indian/Alaska Native students scoring 3+ on at least one AP Exam.
  3. Improved performance levels when comparing the percentage of students in 2016 scoring a 3 or higher to those in 2014, unless the district has already attained a performance level at which more than 70 percent of its AP students are scoring a 3 or higher.
