LONG VALLEY, NJ — Bear season is in full swing, and they've made their presence in Long Valley and the surround area well-known this year. Readers have spotted bears in front yards, sidewalks, and township office lawns recently.

28-year-resident LuAnn Codd said she's noticed an uptick in bears recently, including the one above, but takes precautions against them.
"I the past two years we have seen more bears than ever. I don't mind them, we take the necessary precautions. We secure our garbage and take down our birdfeeders and make sure there's not a food source for the Bears. This picture will show the bear looking at the garbage can but passes it up because we have secure locks," Codd told Patch.
