Occupy Wall Street: Sex, Drugs and Class Warfare

It’s tempting to dismiss the neo-hippie as a bunch of morons with a contradictory message of freedom through greater state power and mutual misery, but I see the movement as a catalyst that threatens to unmask the left’s bankrupt ideology. The lack of a coherent message among these “useful idiots” makes it very easy for the political machine on the left to project their own message onto the movement and thereby re-brand it as their own. In doing so, the Democrats commit political suicide.

I’ve encountered this sea of human occupiers over a period of weeks now (they’re camped out at Zuccotti Park, mere blocks from my office). I observe sex, drugs, public nudity, human excrement and smelly piles of garbage everywhere. I observe that the Occupy movement embraces belligerent class warfare. It wants to eliminate all free markets, free trade and all borders while demanding a "living wage" and free everything for everyone (except the evil “rich”). The movement epitomizes the “gospel of envy” in which the successful are loathed and everything (including war) is the fault of capitalism (Wall Street being the epitome of capitalism). "Capitalism is responsible for most of the poverty and suffering on this planet” reads one protestor’s sign.

The message is also anti-Obama because he is seen as too moderate and therefore a puppet of the capitalist, which is why the Democrat Party can’t afford to ignore this movement and why they will ultimately absorb it, in the same way the GOP absorbed the Tea Party. The process has already begun as Nancy Pelosi projects her political message onto the Occupy movement. Others will do the same, including the President. Thus, the "Occupy" cog will fit nicely in the political machine and in doing so it will polarize the national debate. “Class Warfare Ahead” reads another protestor’s sign.

Despite its faults, the Tea Party turned the GOP just enough to veer it from the brink, giving it new focus and purpose. The Occupy movement, on the other hand, will drive the Democrat Party over the brink. I say this because when given the choice between the “gospel of envy” or economic freedom, I believe Americans will choose freedom. The Occupy movement supplies the necessary contrast that has been missing thus far in the debate which makes the choice all the more stark. Bring it on!
