Budget Talks Set for School Board Meeting Tuesday

K-8 district may approve two motions regarding solar energy use.

In it’s final meeting before preliminary budgets are due to the county superintendent, Washington Township Schools Superintendent Jeff Mohre will present to the board of education the most recent update to next year’s spending plan Tuesday night.

According to the board’s meeting agenda, the budget update is just one of a handful of topics being explored at the session, which is being held at Old Farmers Road School at 7 p.m.

The 2012-13 budget's tax levy actually dropped 1-percent from the year before, as all school boards and municipalities in New Jersey operate under the 2-percent tax cap.

In addition, the board is preparing to approve two resolutions dealing with solar energy at various locations in the district.

The first approval would amend the district’s Long Range Facility Plan to include installation of solar panels on the roof of the Cucinella School, the agenda said.

The second approval would be for a land exchange with the township of Washington to install a solar panel array behind the Long Valley Middle School–a discussion that has been in the works for half a year.

A piece of new business is also scheduled, the agenda notes, regarding the draft of the 2013-14 school calendar.

The meeting is open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend.
