Sensory Nature Walk: A Guided Grounding Experience Location: Schooley’s Mountain Park, parking by the pavilion

Join us for a gentle, guided nature walk through the scenic trails of Schooley’s Mountain Park, exploring open fields, wooded pathways, and the waterfall area. This approximately 2-mile walk blends light movement with sensory awareness and guided reflection to support mindful presence, nervous system regulation, and a deeper connection with the natural environment.
Along the route, participants will be invited to intentionally engage the five senses — noticing sounds, textures, scents, colors, and the feeling of the body in motion. Short guided pauses will offer space for breathing, quiet observation, and simple reflection, helping participants slow down, ground, and reconnect with the present moment. There is no pressure to share or perform; the experience is focused on personal awareness and gentle connection.
This walk is suitable for a&nbsp;Fitness Level 2&nbsp;and requires no prior hiking experience. The pace will be steady and accessible, with time to rest, observe, and enjoy the surroundings. Participants should wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear, and are encouraged to bring water and a snack if desired.

Washington Township Historical Society

The Washington Township Historical Society (WTHS) will launch its new <a href="https://morriscountyhistory.org/event/washington-township-dutch-valley-walking-tour/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Washington Township Walking Tour</a> on Saturday, May 2nd, offering visitors an opportunity to explore the history of the township’s most significant early settlements.
Guided tours on May 2nd will depart hourly starting at noon through 4:00 p.m. from the WTHS Museum at 6 Fairview Avenue in Long Valley. Each tour will last approximately 30 to 40 minutes and will highlight the origins of the village, early settlement priorities, and notable historic structures - including the site of a stone fortress once visited by George Washington.
The event is part of the Morris County Historical Society’s county-wide walking tour series and serves as the official kickoff for WTHS’s new self-guided tour experience. Beginning Sunday, May 3rd, visitors will be able to access the tour digitally via mobile phone or through printed booklets available at the museum.
Free parking for the tour will be available at Zion Lutheran Church, located at 11 Schooley’s Mountain Road, a short distance from the museum. Guests are encouraged to take time to explore the museum’s collections before or after their scheduled walking tour.
“This tour offers residents and visitors a meaningful way to connect with the people, places, and stories that shaped our community,” said Brian Bumpus, vice president, WTHS. “It is also an exciting step toward expanding our heritage in Washington Township.”
