Dog Intro to Nose Work 1

Intro to Nose Work 1 is the first level you must complete before registering for any other classes. In addition, interior searches may be introduced and we will further refine the skills of the dog/handler teams by working on leash management techniques, practicing correct reward delivery and starting pattern searches. Handlers will learn how to read their dog’s body language when working scent. We will discuss environmental factors affecting searches and continue to build the dog’s focus and confidence in different environments.

Nose work is an exciting, positive and fun sport designed to channel dogs’ natural scenting abilities. Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and a natural desire to hunt.
This makes scent work the most natural thing any dog can do! This sport is based on the foundation skills used in K9 detection work training, like bomb or drug detection. Classes focus on teaching you how to encourage and develop your dog’s natural scenting abilities by using their curiosity, desire to hunt, and their love of food and toys. Whether you plan on working toward a title, providing your dog with a new challenge or doing it just for fun, it’s a great way for any dog to build confidence and burn lots of mental energy!
