Central Star Signs With Division I Women's Soccer Team

Brooke Carty etched her name in the West Morris history books time and time again, leading her to a budding collegiate career.

The fields are covered with snow and the temperatures aren’t very pitch friendly.

But West Morris Central senior Brooke Carty can only think about one thing this February, and that’s soccer.

The varsity captain and starting forward just signed a letter of commitment to play for East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, beginning this fall.

Carty’s athletic accolades are longer than a soccer field itself, so it’s no wonder the Division I Pirates came up to Long Valley to snag the star.

Under Coach Ken Rossi, Carty was the team’s leading scorer in 2012 and 2013; is the No. 2 All-Time Scorer in school history; started varsity all four years in high school; and has been part of teams that won the Morris County Tournament in 2013 and sectional titles in 2011 and 2013, where she was the lead goal scorer.

The honor student also received a swath of county and state mentions and accolades throughout her four-year career.

Carty is part of a nine-player signing class by ECU, coached by Rob Donnenwirth.

“The smile on my face after visiting ECU and Coach D was seemingly a permanent fixture,” Carty is quoted as saying on the school’s website. “The campus was amazing and the academic support offered to Pirates is second to none. However, the clincher for me was Coach D taking us out to the soccer stadium, as I looked in awe I turned to my parents and said, ‘This is my new home.’ I’m truly honored to call myself an ECU Pirate!”

Donnenwirth is equally excited about the 5’7” forward, saying, “Brooke is the type of forward that defenders hate to play against. At the end of a game, the defender will look like they went through a battle. She has good speed, an aggressive mentality and has scored goals at every level.”

Carty is scheduled to graduate Central this June and will enroll at East Carolina later this year.
