Chester's Porcello Comes 'Home' to Notch 10th Win for Detroit

Tigers' pitcher and Morris County native makes the most of first Citi Field appearance with a hit and a win.

Rick Porcello loved watching the Mets growing up as a fan in Chester.

On Sunday, he had the chance to pitch against them. And he made the most of it.

Porcello took the mound at Citi Field – the first time he's pitched in the new ballpark – and grabbed his 10th win of the season against the Mets, throwing seven innings and allowing four hits, three earned runs and striking out four, according to mets.com.

The 24-year-old right hander didn't impress just on the mound, as he notched a single in the sixth inning and went 1-for-3 at the plate, the website said.

Porcello, who now calls Tewksbury home, had 17 of his family and friends in the stands, according to dailyrecord.com, but treated the game against his hometown team the same as any other.

“It’s a little exciting, knowing my family and everyone is going to be in the ballpark watching me," he told dailyrecord.com, but went on to say he "can't hear anybody" and remains focused on the mound.
