Deer Management Hunt At Schooley's Mountain This Fall

Officials say it isn't a recreational hunt, but a way to control the population.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — A population controlling deer hunt will take place on Schooley's Mountain over several periods this fall and winter.

The hunt isn't recreational, officials say, and is within the regulations set by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. The goal is to reduce and maintain deer populations and to help native plants recover from excessive grazing.

"These communities are critical for the sustainability of our preserved areas and for the support of native wildlife species," officials said.
