Dispose Of Old, Unwanted Medicine In Long Valley: Here's When
Oct. 29 is National Prescription Take Back Day. Here's where you can dispose of your unwanted meds in Long Valley.
LONG VALLEY, NJ — The Washington Township Police Department has announced their participation in the DEA National Prescription Take Back Day on Oct. 29. Long Valley residents will be able to dispose of unused or unwanted prescription medications safely.
The event will run on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and bringing medication to the collection locations is free and anonymous, according to police.
The medicine drop box is located at 1 E. Springtown Road, in front of the police station.

The federal Drug Enforcement Administration will host the 23rd event in cooperation with law enforcement agencies. During the April 2022 event, agencies collected nearly 721,093 pounds of unused prescription drugs.
Residents should remove any identifying information from the medication containers, such as their name, address, telephone number and doctor’s name. Medications that are collected are brought to a licensed facility where they are safely disposed.

Participants can dispose of any medication in its original container or by removing the medication and placing it into the disposal box. Intravenous solutions, syringes and injectables will not be accepted.
The purpose of Prescription Take Back Day is to prevent medication misuse and opioid addiction from starting, according to DEA. For more information and other collection sites, visit DEA here.
