Flooding Forces Evacuations, Abandoned Cars

Rain has ended but damage has not.

Family members of a home on Fairview Avenue were forced to evacuate their residence Wednesday afternoon when the nearby Stony Brook overflowed and entered the first floor of their home, according to Washington Township Police Lt. Mark Niemynski said.

Waters have since receded on Fairview Avenue, Niemynski said, but the damage remains, as a home near the intersection of that road and Naughright Road had its three-season room nearly ripped from the home's structure.

West Mill Road beyond the Long Valley Middle School has been closed since early Wednesday morning, as it flooded quickly from the heavy rains in the area. Vehicles that could not make it through are still stuck on the roadway, as tow trucks are unable to currently retrieve them, Niemynski said.
